Reasons for Hair Loss
66What Causes Hair Loss
Many men suffer from hair loss; some are hit with it early on, while others are more fortunate and get to hold onto their locks a bit longer. While there is not a single cause for everyone's hair loss, there are a few common reasons that most people lose their hair. The first and most commonly believed factor in male pattern baldness is three fold, heredity, ageing, and hormonal fluctuations. The other reason, which is not as well known, is stress. Last, some cosmetics and medicine are believed to cause hair loss in some rare cases. In this article, you will learn what more about each of the causes listed above.
This first, is the most widely held reasons for hair loss; heredity. This is believed to be the reason that most men tend to lose their hair at a certain time in their life, for no apparent physical reason. Generally male's in-between the ages of twenty and fifty are at highest risk of losing their hair. As you probably already know, some individuals lose their as early as adolescence, while others may not begin to lose their hair until their mid to late forties. This makes an almost definite connection between hair loss and heredity evident, because sons often lose their hair at the same age as their fathers or grandfathers did.
Age and Hair Loss
With age comes hormonal changes and fluctuations, which can be brought on by biological changes. These changes can be puberty, which directly after many young men lose their hair, and a stage that really does not have a name. By this second stag I am referring to the time in a man's life when his hair starts to gray, and his metabolism begins to slow down; this is a biological change which is often accompanied by hair loss.
Stress and Hair Loss
There is actually a term used to describe the next cause of hair loss, it is Telogen effluvium, which simply describes the slowing of new hair growth that is brought on by severe stress. Sudden, severe stress sets of a reaction that causes hair follicles to go into hibernation, for lack of a better word. Months or years after the stressful even, these hair follicles are triggered to shed their hair.
Medicine
The last mention was saved to the last of the article because it is much less common then the ones listed above, but if you are a suffer of baldness any cause is of concern. There are certain medications that can actually cause hair to fall out, never to return. These include some antidepressants, birth control pills, amphetamines, select antibiotics, and certain cancer drugs. It is important to understand that not all medications that fall under one of these categories will definitely cause baldness, and the medications that do cause hair loss in certain individuals will not always cause hair loss in others.
While every cause of hair loss was not covered in this article, many where, and I hope by reading this you have a better understanding of the possible causes of your baldness at the very least.
